Welcome to Madeira Cafe, a charming coffee shop nestled in the heart of Haverhill at 22 Queen St, CB9 9EF, United Kingdom. This delightful spot stands out as a beacon for coffee enthusiasts and lovers of authentic Portuguese cuisine alike. With a focus on independent quality, Madeira Cafe offers more than just coffee; it serves a unique culinary experience that transports you to the vibrant streets of Portugal.
From the moment you step inside, you find yourself enveloped by a warm and inviting atmosphere. The genuine smiles from the friendly couple running the cafe instantly make you feel at home. It's their hospitality that sets the tone for your visit, giving you a sense of belonging as you sample their carefully crafted menu.
One standout dish is the full English breakfast, a customer favorite that boasts generous portions and flavors that satisfy any morning hunger pangs. As noted by one of their patrons, the breakfast was impressively quick, arriving hot and freshly prepared within minutes. While some dishes may have room for improvement—like the sausages, which were recognized as slightly lacking in quality—the overall flavor profile and value for money still make it a compelling choice.
For those seeking something sweet, the Pastel de Nata deserves a special mention. Its flaky crust and creamy custard filling offer a delightful treat that complements the rich coffees beautifully. Many reviewers remark on the excellent, robust coffee served here, which aligns perfectly with a mid-morning snack or a light lunch with friends.
As you explore the menu, you’ll also encounter an array of hearty sandwiches such as the delicious ham and cheese and the tempting chorizo roll. Each item showcases the cafe's commitment to serving fresh, quality ingredients. Additionally, the selection of Portuguese beers offers a refreshing beverage option that enhances the dining experience.
Despite its cozy size, the cafe doesn’t skimp on flavor or service, as echoed in numerous reviews from patrons who appreciate the promptness and friendliness at Madeira Cafe. While the space may feel a little tight at times, the scrumptious offerings and welcoming ambiance more than make up for it.
For anyone visiting Haverhill, a stop at Madeira Cafe is a must. Whether you’re grabbing a quick coffee to go or settling in for a leisurely meal, you're bound to walk away with more than just a pleasant appetite—you’ll also experience the warm spirit of Portuguese culture reflected in every dish. Came in yesterday for a coffee to take away while we were in the area. (I always prefer to search out independent coffee shops when I’m somewhere new, rather than go to a chain). Really friendly service, nice coffee too, and a very tasty Pastel de natas . Seem also to have a good selection of Portuguese food to buy. I hope I get the chance to visit again sometime.

Took my family for lunch and enjoyed the Portuguese chicken. It was 10/10 and the kids meals were perfect. Coffee was great too. Best thing though was the service and hospitality. See you soon!

Popped in for a full English. I was really surprised at how cheap things were on the menu. I placed my order and took a seat. Within 10 minutes my food was served and it was clear that everything had been prepared in those 10 minutes. Nothing showed signs of sitting around for a while. The portion was generous and the food well cooked. The only thing disappointing was the sausages. They are obviously cheap sausages, the type you expect to get in a packet of 20 in the freezer section. Maybe with 40% pork if you’re lucky? But, for the price (£8) you simply can’t expect top of the range sausages. I gave the food 4/5 simply for the sausages. I for one would pay a quid or two more to get 2, more decent sausages. Service was great. The cafe was clean so I will definitely return when next in Haverhill.

A super cute authentic Portuguese little cafe/ bar/ grocery store, with good coffee and yummy food and desserts! People who run it are pleasant and accommodating, and in spite of the small space around us, tables are a bit too tight and there's not a lot of elbow space between the tables, it was a nice little pit stop for us!

We were so pleasantly surprised by this cosy cafe. Run by a very friendly and accomodating Portugese couple who have created a little corner of Portugal here in Haverhill. We ordered fish and chips which were very well made and a nice sized portion too, and for such a reasonable price! [non of the prices were expensive Martin Young] Many another FnCh shop could take an example from Madeira Café. Such a pity that the pastel de nata were finished that would have been a treat

Maria and Jose run this cafe. They are an extremely lovely couple who make lovely coffee. £2.20 or £2:50 for cuppachino. Lots of nice Portuguese cakes plus fish & chips or English breakfast. Well worth a visit. Beat coffee for miles.
